Catherine Grosdemange-Billiard is Professor at the Chemistry Department   of “Université de Strasbourg”, France. Her scientific background is in fields as varied as biochemistry, organic synthesis, surface chemistry, bioorganic chemistry and medicinal chemistry.  After a BSc. in Biochemistry and a MSc. in Chemistry, she obtained her PhD at “Université Champagne-Ardenne. Then, she was postdoctoral fellow in Georges Whitesides’ group at Harvard University (USA). She studied the interactions of proteins with self-assembled monolayer on gold that can mimic the biological membranes. Back to France, she was appointed assistant professor at the “Université Champagne-Ardenne”. Her research was focused on the synthesis of biological compounds by using biocatalysts. Then, she moved to “Université de Strasbourg “and joined Michel Rohmer’s group. She conducted research in chemistry and biochemistry of bacterial hopanoids and she was involved in the elucidation of the non-mevalonate pathway (MEP pathway). Since January 2014, she is the leader of the “Laboratoire de Chimie et Biochimie de Molécules Bioactives”. Her research interests are focused on the design of new antimicrobials and the synthesis of small molecules highly functionalized.
